Here at APT Counselling, we work to provide a safe space for anyone and everyone.
Services Include:
Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Reports for persons involved in legal or employment proceedings.
Personal Counselling* for adults (pāhake), including young adults (rangatahi)**.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
A World Health Organisation-endorsed, evidence-based gold standard therapy and first-line treatment for PTSD.
Clinical research has produced growing evidence for applications in multiple other mental and physical illnesses, including: C-PTSD, anxiety, depression, addiction and substance use disorders, phobias, grief and loss, chronic pain, and somatic distress.
10 sessions are recommended for less complex issues. Please contact us for a tailored plan.
Workshop Presentations, Webinars for Corporate/Club/Tertiary
Topics include: Anxiety Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Substance Abuse/Dependence, Anger Management.
*Please note that although we can help you navigate a variety of mental health concerns, we are unable to provide clinical diagnosis for concerns such as ADHD. If you are seeking such an assessment, please contact your General Practitioner (GP), or other mental health professionals such as a Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Pedatrician (children), or Neurologist.
**We primarily work with young adults aged 18 or order. However, those under 18 and in their late teen years may be considered, under discretion. Due to our work hours, experience, and specialties, we want to make sure individuals are connected with the right people for their care.
Online Alcohol and Drug Education Course
Taking an intensive harm reduction approach, we help clients with managing a healthier lifestyle with alcohol/drug use, guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles. Certificate of Completion offered.

Starting from 2013, I have worked extensively with substance and alcohol misuse, provided crisis intervention, and longer-term therapeutic services. I am an experienced therapy group facilitator and presenter. My current focus is AOD report writing for legal concerns.

My master's degree focussed on recovery from anxiety and depression for young people aged 13-25 years. I have worked in a clinic for four years supporting people with addiction. Also trained in EDMR therapy. Further, I have previously worked as teacher and as a counsellor in schools.
I enjoy helping people improve their own lives and have a particular interest in ADHD and Autism.
In my spare time I hike, dance and enjoy yoga. As a marine medic, I am very passionate about whales and dolphins.

BA in Psychology and Philosophy, current BSc (Hons) in Psychology student, under consideration for PhD in Psychology
I handle various administrative tasks, IT services, counselling resource graphic design, audio transcription for AOD reports, and general office workflows that keep our practice organised and focused on client care.
My honours research thesis focused on developing a novel psychometric scale in a pilot study for how moral experiences of harm are experienced by sexualised violence victim-survivors. I am currently in the process of publication to academic journals.
I plan to continue working in mental health, as I continue my academic studies as a PhD candidate 2027-2029.

Accessibility
Our usual space has a couple of steps to get inside. However, we do have a ground-level space right next door that, in principle, is wheelchair accessible, but may not accommodate all wheelchair sizes. There is a small 'bump' to get inside.
Our bathroom space is relatively small, but is close access. Please contact us for more information or other questions.
